The Tour

Wooroonooran National Park is located half an hour drive south of Cairns . Wooroonooran offers stunning pristine rainforest with fantastic World Heritage attractions. This area of unsurpassed beauty contains the 2 highest mountains in Queensland, numerous rivers, waterfalls, swimming holes and some of the World's lushest and most ancient rainforests.

A safari through the Wooroonooran area will allow you to  revitalise yourself in tranquil rainforest settings and to see highlights of the natural area, with a quality, accredited guide who can expand on the area's natural beauty with informative commentary (foreign language guiding available).

The day tour offers an educational first-hand rainforest experience, brilliant photographic opportunities at each location and creates incredible lifetime memories, all in an area that is less visited. Most day tour operators in the Cairns area visit areas such as Kuranda Village via the Train & Skyrail or head north, to the Daintree & Cape Tribulation Rainforests. Whilst the above mentioned areas are well worth seeing, a visit to the Wooroonooran Rainforest areas will see you touring areas that sustain less traffic and overall visitation and this definitely adds to the experience, as you’ll find yourself visiting select highlights of the natural area without the crowds of day visitors and tour operators.

Your day starts with a pick up from Cairns and or Cairns Northern Beaches accommodation with your friendly, professional guide offering introductions and a friendly greeting to start the day. Travel north out of Cairns, past residential areas along the southern highway as you leave the city behind, you’ll see vast areas of verdant green rainforest and sugarcane farms as you make your way to Wooroonooran!

Stop and take a crocodile river cruise if you dare! See massive crocodiles basking in the sun in their natural domain, along the banks of the Mulgrave River. Enjoy commentary and learn about the unusual breeding habits of these giant, reptilian beasts left over from the dinosaur age. The River Cruise also allows participants to enjoy some birdwatching along the fringes of ancient mangrove forests, and to discover how an environment is so valuable to the Great Barrier Reef!

After enjoying your river cruise, travel further to stop at Babinda Falls to enjoy a walk around the beautiful Babinda Boulders. Here you’ll travel along a rainforest path to the magnificent, breath taking granite gorge created over millions  of years. Listen to the ancient Aboriginal legends about the creation of the giant granite boulders, and hear the story of Oolana, an Aboriginal Princess. You’ll also learn about the evolution of one of the world’s oldest rainforests, as your naturalist guide gives interpretive talks on the environment visited. Take the opportunity to enjoy a swim in cool crystal waters with fish and turtles or sit back and relax in the sun or under the canopy of an ancient rainforest tree.

A day’s touring can inspire a healthy appetite, your day out includes a stop at Roscoes in Innisfail, famous for Roscoes Italian Buffet Lunch! Sit back and enjoy a full sumptuous buffet meal at Roscoe’s, as you will be able to choose from a wide variety of salads, vegetable dishes, hot meats, pasta, pizza, and an outstanding buffet of desserts.

After lunch it’s time to stop at Josephine Falls. Josephine Falls is a secluded  waterfall, located at the foot of Queensland’s tallest mountain, Mt. Bartle Frere (1622m). A series of waterfalls flow into large pools surrounded by boulders. Rainforest trees hang over the water, keeping it cool and refreshing. Take a short walk through massive rainforest trees. See and learn about the amazing features of a rainforest:  including lianas, buttress roots, canopy and cauliflory! Whilst there’s time for a swim at the Babinda Boulders, swimming at Josephine Falls is not encouraged, due to safety reasons.

From Josephine Falls, it’s time to visit the beautiful Eubanangee Wetlands. Here you can take an adventure walk through this natural crocodile breeding habitat (of course you’ll be with your guide and explore and walk through safe areas) to learn all about the amazing breeding cycle of the Estuarine Salt Water Crocodile. Enjoy the spectacular views over this magnificent wetland. Here you can enjoy excellent birdwatching opportunities, there’s Jabirus, Whistling ducks, Egrets, Rainbow Bee Eaters and many other bird species, including migratory birds .

As your day comes to an end, it’s time to make your way back into Cairns, to be dropped off at Cairns City or Northern Beaches accommodation, arriving at approximately 6.00pm
