Wavelength - Outer Barrier Reef Snorkelling Tour
Duration: Full Day Tour
Departs: Port Douglas 8:30am Daily (coach transfers from Cairns Northern Beaches available on request)
Returns: Port Douglas at approximately 4.30pm

Wavelength departs the marina for the 90minute trip out to the Outer Reefs located on edge of the continental shelf, passing Low Isles en route. On the way out to the Great Barrier Reef the vessel often encounters dolphins, whales and various species of rays. The journey is a good opportunity the vessel's crew to get to know individual passengers and are happy to answer any questions you might have about your day. During this time, you will be fitted with high quality snorkeling gear so that when you arrive at your destination, you will have more time snorkeling.
On arriving at the reef your snorkel advisor will conduct a comprehensive gear and safety brief and if it is your first time snorkeling, there is plenty of time offered to share tips and help you feel more comfortable in your gear. Once in the water guests are free to explore the wonders of the reef under the expert supervision of the vessel's professional crew.
After morning tea and some time to reflect on the beauty of nature its time to move along to another one the vessel's many permitted sites, chosen to suit the prevailing weather conditions on the day. Here, with all passengers having mastered their new snorkeling skills, a guided snorkel tour is conducted! This guided tour allows your marine biologists to help you discover aspects of the new site that might otherwise be missed, and to point out the multitude of life forms found under water.
On a guided snorkel tour it is possible to be handed a small number of different creatures, specifically branching corals and mushroom corals. You can even meet schools of large fish or even turtles, and drift over colourful coral gardens featuring giant clams (Please note that there are strict guidelines on what can be touched so as to protect the integrety of the reef and the vessel's crew are always happy to give advice with regard to what is permissable).
Lunch aboard Wavelength can be both a relaxed or interactive affair. The open and expansive rear deck allow passengers to mingle with other guests and crew, while those wanting some quiet time can find a private spot on Wavelength's bow or top deck. The delicious deli-style lunch is vegetarian and includes a range of salads, arancini balls, char-grilled veggies, spinach and feta pastries and mini quiches, cheese, eggs and rolls. Water, soft drinks, coffee and tea are also available. The vessel does not serve prawns due to the significant by-catch associated with them, nor meat as as reducing meat consumption is one of the easiest ways an individual can reduce personal carbon emissions. Also available onboard are water, soft drinks, coffee and tea. Wavelength can also cater for different dietary requirements including lactose and glten (on request).
During lunch, your Marine Biologists will conduct interactive Reef Talks. This is where you can ask questions on anything that you've seen through the day or simply sit, relax and learn all about the ecosystem of the Great Barrier Reef. Once everyone’s appetites have been satisfied and all questions answered its time head to your final site of the day, where, with a better understanding of the reef, guests are free to adventure further, exploring endless nooks and crannies.
Following afternoon tea it's time to head back to Port with the wonderful view of the sun dropping towards the rainforest clad mountains. Wavelength arrives back in Port Douglas at approximately 4.30pm.
