The Frankland Island Group are located 45 kilometres south of Cairns and are an untouched North Queensland treasure. Totally uninhabited, covered in lush vegetation and surrounded by rich and diverse reefs, the Frankland Islands are an exceptional forum for reef and rainforest interpretation and general lifestyle activities associated with the best of the Great Barrier Reef and Far North Queensland.
Your day begins and finishes with a gentle cruise along the lush, verdant green rainforest lined Mulgrave River. An interesting commentary provides an insight into the river environment and significant local features of the landscape.
At the mouth of the river, the Frankland Islands slowly come into view and it is only a short open water crossing to your destination for the day.
Frankland Islands is the perfect location for snorkellers to drift over the amazing variety of corals and marine life that inhabit the area, including fish, sea turtles and octopus.
The day is yours to enjoy as you wish. You have a variety of tours included in your package with quality Marine Biologist led snorkel tours. Participants can choose between tours, one of which is suitable for persons with Advance to intermediate swimming skills which will see those exploring coral bombies located further off of the island with a Marine Biologist in a small group. The other option allows Novices and Beginners to choose to do the easier Marine Biologist led snorkelling tour which departs from the island's sandy beaches and will allow for snorkelling directly in the shallow and sheltered island lagoon areas.
After your in-water activities in the morning a tropical buffet lunch is served on the island and includes a choice of delicious fresh salads, cold meats including chicken and ham, prawns and an abundance of tropical fruits.
When you're satisfied and full from a genourous serving of the tropical lunch buffet, a guided island nature walk led by a marine biologist will start at 1pm. This tour includes the island's rock pools which are host to many small marine creatures and is optional.
You can of course opt to go for another snorkel, play on the kayaks and paddleboards, semisubmersible tour or just simply relax on the pristine white beach and enjoy the serenity and beauty of the Frankland Island paradise.
At 3.000pm, it is time to depart the island and transfer passengers back to main vessel. Afternoon tea of cake is served enroute before arriving back to Cairns at approximately 5.15pm.
