This three day safari is perfect for the independent traveller who wants free time to explore and relax Cooktown at a leisurely pace. Overnight accommodation and select highlights at areas of interest are included in tour rates and meals are included as indicated:
Day One (L&D) This morning you will be collected from your accommodation. Travel north along the scenic route to Mossman, lush farmland contrasts with seascape as we approach the majestic Daintree River. A short morning tea break, then its ‘all aboard’ for an informative one hour river cruise. Relax and enjoy the splendor only the Daintree can offer as you learn of Estuarine Crocodiles, mangrove forests and wildlife, this is nature at its best! We ascend the Alexandra Range and pause for a panoramic view of World Heritage Tropical Rainforest merging with the azure colours of the Coral Sea. Experience the rainforest intimately on our elevated National Park Boardwalk. Accurate interpretations of flora and fauna will be given with ample time for photographs and questions as we search for the elusive, rare and totally unique Southern Cassowary and other wildlife species within this particular habitat.
A delicious lunch is included along with a guided walk at Cape Tribulation Beach including the Marrdga Botanical Boardwalk. Take a stroll along the beach and boardwalk to the photographers’ platform overlooking the mountains and coast where the ‘Rainforest meets the Reef’.
Heading north your driver will share fascinating stories and history as you travel along the famous 4WD-only Bloomfield Track before arriving at the iconic Lion’s Den Hotel for a cool refreshment (own expense). On arrival at Cooktown, relax before our welcome dinner.

Day Two (L)
Enjoy a full day exploring this iconic Historic town including a guided foreshore walk where you will see the 'reconciliation rocks' where the first act of reconciliation between Europeans and Aboriginals took place. Learn about the 48 days Captain Cook and his crew spent ashore and the role Cooktown played in the Palmer River Gold Rush and the connection to country the area has, for the local Guugu Yimithirr Aboriginal people.
This afternoon you will visit the Heritage listed Cooktown Pioneers Cemetery which bears testimony to the diverse nationalities who came to Cooktown and the Palmer Goldfields. From there you will have entry to the James Cook Museum which showcases the fascinating history of this remarkable town. Here you will see a variety of original artifacts from the HMS Endeavor including the vessel's cannon and anchor. Your day concludes with a drive the late afternoon up to visit Grassy Hill for amazing panoramic views of Cooktown out over the Coral Sea & Endeavour River.

Day Three (B&L) This morning is free for you to explore Cooktown at your leisure. There are many historic buildings and places of interest. Lunch is included before taking a tour of the Cooktown Botanic Gardens. Enjoy a guided walk, where you will see living plant specimens collected by Dr Daniel Solander and Joseph Banks. Established in 1878, the Cooktown Botanic Gardens are one of Queensland’s oldest regional Botanic gardens. Natures Powerhouse houses the Vera Scarth-Johnson gallery, a collection of original botanical illustrations of flora from the region.

Please Note: Due to the flooding at Christmas 2023 and into January 2024 the Bloomfield Track has been closed for maintenance. As a resutl, this tour runs on the Wednesday from June to October on select departure dates ** Group charters may be available outside of these dates.
