The Cape York 12 day Drive / Fly accommodated and glamping safari focuses on the nature of Cape York’s wilderness, a region of international conservation significance and perhaps Australia’s next World Heritage listed region. The safari also has a twist!
Your Cape York Safari will commence in Cairns but will travel south to see highlights of the Woronora National Park area including Babinda Boulders, a popular swimming hole with its cascading waterfalls and great history as well as a stop at the Heritage Listed Paronella Park, one of the region's first tourist attractions. Here you will see splendid waterfalls bursting from Mena Creek as you tour the historical castle which is a true jewel set in the rainforest.
Travel further through the inquisitive, diverse landscape of the Atherton Tablelands to the remarkable Milla Milla Waterfall Circuit and experience the collection of three spectacular waterfalls.
You will also visit other iconic attractions including Chillagoe where you will experience the famous, beautiful balancing rock for the sunset! You will also enjoy a guided tour of the Chillagoe Caves before heading down to the Daintree Rainforest & Mossman Gorge region to overnight.
You will venture on to the rainforest lined Bloomfield Track and explore the cascading Wujal Wujal Waterfalls along the route.
Stop and visit historic Cooktown and venture on to the imposing mountain range Black Mountain, a massive collection of granite boulders, to unique wildlife and rich in Aboriginal culture. Refresh and unwind with lunch and drinks in Cooktown and then enjoy the sunset at the Grassy Hill lookout before staying overnight stay at unique Cooktown accommodation.
Depart Cooktown and Battle Camp Road to visit the Heritage-listed Laura Homestead in the Rinyirru (Lakefield) National Park. There is even a stop at Laura, home to some of the best Aboriginal rock art in Australia! You will visit the rock art sites, including the Split Rock with a guided tour, allowing you to view the rock art galleries.
Travel on through Rinyirru (Lakefield) National Park, crossing several exciting creek crossings, passing through open savannah lands surrounded by imposing termite mounds, arriving at the Hann River Tourist Park Campground for the night.
Adventure further north again and pass through Coen before arriving at Archer River. Here lucky participants can cool off in the crystal-clear water of the Archer River. The head on out to the Piccaninny Plains to visit the wildlife sanctuary.
Stop at Archer River Roadhouse and journey to Iron Range National Park via the Old Telegraph Road. Exploring the Iron Range National Park, home to many of Cape York's unique flora and fauna. You will also get to explore the truly spectacular Mount Tozer at the peak of the table range before journeying on to Lockhart River for an overnight stay.
The safari also stops at the infamous Wenlock River Crossing, here you will visit the historic Moreton Telegraph Station, experiencing the old vehicle pontoon and taking a stroll along the banks of the river and look for the 110 bird species that inhabit this beautiful environment.
Venture to Weipa and take part in breathtaking Crocodile Cruise along the Embley river to witness the diverse wildlife habitat, including giant Estuarine Saltwater Crocodiles before travelling on to Albatross Bay.
Continue journeying further north along the Old Telegraph Track passing through some wild and rugged countryside until arriving at the most famous Gunshot Creek crossing! The creek crossing will definitely get the adrenaline levels up and should be the absolute highlight of your whole Cape York Trip!
Also included are stops at Elliot Falls and Fruit Bat Falls, with time for a refreshing swim in the crystal-clear fresh waters and abundant photo opportunities before crossing the Jardine River by vehicular ferry and arriving at Bamaga for the night!
The highlight of your safari will surely a visit to the Tip of Cape York, Australia most northern point. Take a stroll along the walking track commencing at Pajinka to enjoy the beautiful views over the stunning turquoise blue seas and the Cape York Islands and take your picture next to the iconic Tip of Cape York signpost! Spend time taking in the spectacular views of the Torres Straits and surrounding beaches before visiting Somerset Station, a historic Government Outpost and Cattle Station, filled with historical artifacts. Of course you will also get to visit some secluded tropical beaches to spot some of the breathtaking wildlife that abounds in the Cape York region.
Your safari adventure concludes with a ferry to Horn Island to enjoy a guided tour around the prominent WWII historical sites including a visit to the Torres Strait Heritage Museum before boarding your flight back to Cairns.
For our final evening, you will stay in Cairns at accommodation overnight with the group, allowing you unwind and relax as well as to reflect on your magnificent trip!

As the Cape is a remote area and accommodation options are limited, if there are any problems with accommodation availability, the operator may elect to offer a night or two as glamping / camping sectors, if the need arrises. Day one begins with a visit to the iconic Babinda Boulders, a popular swimming hole with its cascading waterfalls and great history – the perfect place for a refreshing dip surrounded by lush rainforest. The adventure continues by journeying to the Heritage Listed Paronella Park. With splendid waterfalls bursting from Mena Creek, this historical castle is a true jewel in the rainforest. Feeling hungry? There is a stop for lunch and time to indulge in some local lunch at the extraordinary Mungalli Farmhouse.
Then make your way through the inquisitive, diverse landscape of the Atherton Tablelands to the remarkable Milla Milla Waterfall Circuit. Experience the collection of three spectacular waterfalls the Tablelands has on offer. Day - 2 Malanda to Chillagoe
Depart from Malanda Lodge and make your way to the historic Herberton Village Museum. The village includes a beautiful collection of historical buildings and fascinating exhibits from across Australia. The journey continues to Chillagoe where you will experience the famous, beautiful balancing rock for the sunset. Then venture through the man-made 300m2 of Crystal Caves built to feature million-year-old natural crystals and prehistoric fossils at the Atherton Tablelands. Refresh and relax with some fantastic lunch at the Camp 64 Museum and Café. *(Overnight Accommodation Provided)
Day 3 - Chillagoe to Cape Tribulation
Today, we visit the Chillagoe Caves as well as the Granite Gorge and tour the limestone caves at the Chillagoe-Montana National Park. Chillagoe is a haven for wildlife, with dozens of unique bird and other animal species to see. The Chillagoe Caves have even revealed crocodiles fossilized bones, as well as extinct giant kangaroos and wombats in the carbonate-impregnated soils.
Then journey on to Mossman Gorge to enjoy the crystal-clear cascades over large granite boulders, surrounded by beautiful Rainforest. Cross the Daintree River on the famous cable ferry and adventure through the Daintree Rainforest to Alexandra Lookout, providing picture perfect views of where the Daintree Rainforest and Great Barrier Reef meet. Stay at the unique Ferntree Rainforest Lodge, immersed within the Daintree Rainforest, and dine at the Cassowary Restaurant while enjoying the natural surroundings of the jungle. *(Overnight Accommodation Provided)
Day 4 - Cape Tribulation to Cooktown via the Bloomfield Track
The following day you will start the day off with experiencing and exploring the beauty of the Daintree Rainforest, including the breath taking gigantic 500-year-old Fig Tree. You will cross the cool, clear waters of Emmagen Creek. Then venture on to the treacherous Bloomfield Track and explore the cascading Wujal Wujal Waterfalls. The adventure continues up to the historic Cooktown to the imposing mountain range Black Mountain made up of massive granite boulders, which is home to unique wildlife and rich in Aboriginal culture. Refresh and unwind with lunch and drinks in Cooktown Village, and then enjoy the sunset at the Grassy Hill lookout. Day 5 - Cooktown to Hann River Tourist Park
Today, you will depart Cooktown and Battle Camp Road to visit the Heritage-listed Laura Homestead in the Rinyirru (Lakefield) National Park. Arrive into Laura, home to some of the best Aboriginal Rock Art sites in Australia. Visit Laura's art sites, including the Split Rock where you will take a guided tour to will view the rock art galleries. Later enjoy a spot of lunch before visiting the Quinkan & Regional Cultural Centre. Then you will venture through Rinyirru (Lakefield) National Park, crossing several treacherous creek crossings. As the sun sets, pass through open savannah surrounded by endless termite mounds, arriving at the Hann River Tourist Park Campground for the night. *(Overnight Accommodation Provided)
Day 6 - Hann River Tourist Park to Archer River
It’s time to continue the adventure further north and pass through Coen before arriving at Archer River for lunch. Here you can cool off in the crystal-clear water of the Archer River. We then head to the Piccaninny Plains and visit the wildlife sanctuary owned by Australian Wildlife Conservancy (AQC) & the Tony and Lisette Lewis Foundation – Wildlife Link. The jointly owned sanctuary provides a critical corridors that help link the east and west coasts of the Cape York Peninsula. Among the magnificent gallery forests, there is one rainforest type found nowhere else in the world. The property contains the most extensive and most intact tropical grasslands in the high rainfall belt of northern Australia. *(Overnight Accommodation Provided)
Day 7 - Archer River to Lockhart River via Old Telegraph Road
Today you will depart Archer River Roadhouse and journey to Iron Range National Park via the Old Telegraph Road. Here you can explore the Iron Range National Park, which contains many of Cape York's unique plant, bird, and other animal species. As you travel through the National Park we will explore the truly spectacular Mount Tozer at the peak of the table range, and we then start the journey on to Lockhart River. Arrive at Lockhart River for your overnight stay at the Iron Range Cabins. *(Overnight Accommodation Provided)
Day 8 - Lockhart River to Weipa via Portland Roads
This morning make your way east to cross the infamous Wenlock River Crossing and to visit the historic Moreton Telegraph Station with its majestic old mango trees. Here you will experience the old vehicle pontoon used before the bridge was built over the river, and see some of the high water levels from previous floods. There is time to take a stroll along the banks of the river and look for the 110 bird species that inhabit this beautiful environment.
Then it is time to venture on to Weipa, to join Western Eco Tours for a breath taking Crocodile Cruise along the Embley river. Explore the diverse wildlife habitat and keep an eye out for some giant salt water crocodiles! Then kick back and relax at Albatross Bay Resort for the night. *(Overnight Accommodation Provided)
Day 9 - Weipa to Cape York Peninsula Lodge
Day nine starts with journeying further north along the Old Telegraph Track, passing through some wild and rugged countryside until you arrive at the most famous ‘Gunshot Creek Crossing’. This creek crossing will get the adrenaline levels up and probably be the absolute highlight of your whole Cape York trip!!!!
Next stop is Elliot Falls and Fruit Bat Falls for a refreshing swim in the crystal-clear fresh waters, followed by a picnic lunch. Then continue even further north and cross the Jardine River by vehicular ferry and arrive at Bamaga Accommodation, the perfect place to unwind and relax before adventuring to the tip of Cape York. *(Overnight Accommodation Provided)
Day 10 - Cape York Peninsula Lodge to Tip of Australia (Cape York)
Today you will visit the very Tip of Cape York and Australia mainland's most Northern Point! The walking track commences at Pajinka and is only a short walk away from the carpark. Enjoy the beautiful views over the blue ocean and York Islands and take your picture next to the iconic signpost. After taking in the spectacular views of the Torres Straits and surrounding beaches, you will enjoy lunch on Somerset Beach. Then you will visit Somerset Station, which was established as a Government Outpost and Cattle Station and is filled with historical interests, as well as visit some secluded beaches to try and spot some of the breathtaking wildlife the very north of Australia offers. Day 11 - Cape York to Cairns
For your last day, you will catch the ferry to Horn Island and enjoy a guided tour around the prominent WWII historical sites. The island became prominent in WWII for various Japanese air raids. You will have lunch here and visit the Torres Strait Heritage Museum before boarding your flight back to Cairns. For your final evening, you will stay in Cairns with the group and reflect on your magnificent outback odyssey! *(Overnight Accommodation Provided)
Day 12 - Cairns
Enjoy some breakfast before being transferred to Cairns Airport or other preferred accommodation location in Cairns.
