The Tour

Your naturalist guide will meet you at your accommodation and after introductions all round, you’ll drive north from Cairns along Captain Cook Highway. This stretch of highway which winds along the coast north of Cairns to Port Douglas is one the world's top scenic drives and carries you through Port Douglas and on to the verdant rainforests of Mossman. Lush farmland contrasts with seascape you make your approach to the majestic Daintree River.

On arrival at the river, it’s time for a short morning tea break then its 'all aboard' for an informative river cruise on the Daintree River. Relax and enjoy the splendour only the Daintree can offer as you learn of Estuarine Crocodiles, mangrove forests and wildlife, this is nature at its best! Guides are Eco Accredited and will be able to give interpretation of this complex and unique river system.

You’ll cross the Daintree River via Cable Ferry and proceed to ascend the Alexandra Range and pause for a panoramic view of World Heritage Tropical Rainforest merging with the azure colours of the Coral Sea. Experience the rainforest intimately on the elevated National Park Boardwalk, “Jindalba”, where small flowing creeks mingle with World Heritage Listed Rainforest. Accurate interpretations of flora and fauna will be given by your guide with ample time for photographs and questions as you’ll search for a glimpse of the elusive, rare and totally unique Southern Cassowary and other wildlife species within this particular habitat.

As you make your way towards Cape Tribulation andyou will stop at  Lync Haven which is an animal refuge centre. Here you will have the opportunity to hand feed a kangaroo get up close to some of Australia’s wildlife. See “Boris” the crocodile (if not mating season) and enjoy delicious gourmet barbecue lunch with freshly prepared salads in a beautiful rainforest setting restaurant (vegetarians and other dietary requirements catered for with prior notification) and enjoy a cold drink from the bar.

This tour does a little more. It takes you beyond Cape Tribulation along the 4WD Bloomfield Track to pristine Emmagen Creek and time for a refreshing rainforest stream swim. Seek fish and turtles in the creek, butterflies and exotic birds in the trees and indulge in a feast of tropical fruit, a complimentary glass of wine and a cup of traditional Billy Tea, all of which enhance the tranquil surroundings.

You will also stop at Cape Tribulation Beach where there is a little time offered to swim in the Coral Sea (seasonal) or stroll along the beach and boardwalk to the photographers' platform overlooking the mountains and coast where the 'Rainforest meets the Reef'. As the Daintree area is famous for being adjacent to another World Heritage site of equal importance, the Great Barrier Reef. There are few places in the world as significant and with such biodiversity as the Daintree Rainforest.

Time permitting, there's a stop at Daintree’s hidden secret, the Daintree Ice Cream Factory. Your taste buds will be tantalised with exotic tropical fruit home made ice cream. Sample unique flavours, such as Black Sapote, Soursop, Wattle Seed, Jackfruit, and Coconut just to name a few. All the fruits used to make the ice cream have been locally grown on the property and for as little as $6.00 you can taste up to four different flavours.(price is subject to change without notice).

In the late afternoon you will take a refreshment stop; before crossing the Daintree River by cable ferry and begin to make the homeward journey somewhat wiser for your 'total' Rainforest Experience!
