The Tour

Your day starts with a complimentary pick-up at your accommodation and transfer to the Cairns Heliport for a meet & greet and safety briefing before boarding your helicopter to experience a memorable day in the World Heritage listed Tropical Rainforest.

As you lift of you will witness sweeping panoramic views from the tropical rainforest clad coastline, across the azure waters of the Coral Sea and out of the Great Barrier Reef.  Only from this unique aerial perspective can the vibrant hues and sheer expanse of the reef’s thriving coral gardens and marine life be truly appreciated.
Your skilled pilot will share their local knowledge of the region, all whilst on the lookout for Turtles, Dolphins, Manta Rays, large schools of pelagic fish and even majestic Humpback Whales (Jul-Sep).

Approaching the mainland again as shades of blue merge seamlessly into the lush, emerald green coastline of the Daintree Rainforest, you’ll cross the coastline at estuary of the mighty majestic Daintree River, as you follow this ancient waterway on to your landing site at the Daintree River Cruise Centre to join up with a small group 4WD tour.

Morning tea served before embarking on a 1 Hour Fully Guided Daintree River Cruise. Your experienced river guide will discuss the unique characteristics of the river’s birdlife, butterflies, tree snakes, reptiles, mangrove systems and other endemic plants as well as the Estuarine Crocodile.

After enjoying your cruise, it’s time to climb aboard your purpose-built tour vehicle and ascend the Alexandra Range stopping for a breathtaking photo opportunity at the iconic Alexandra Range Lookout before heading further into the rainforest.

Your naturalist guide will take you an elevated boardwalk tour. Here you will learn about the regions unique and diverse flora and fauna including chance sightings of the endemic, prehistoric looking Boyd’s Rainforest Dragon plus the elusive and endangered Southern Cassowary.

Stop for lunch at the Cape Trib Beach House restaurant and enjoy a menu selection lunch and a cold drink before journeying north beyond Cape Tribulation where the sealed road ends to travel along the 4WD-only Bloomfield Track to pristine Emmagen Creek. Here there is time to take a walk in the rainforest or take the opportunity to enjoy a refreshing rainforest creek swim.    Search the creek for turtles, fish and lizards as well as dazzling Blue Ulysses butterflies and endemic bird life which can be identified by their characteristic calls.

Travelling back along the Bloomfield Track, there’s a stop at Cape Tribulation beach with time for a beach stroll or to visit the photographer’s platform.  With a backdrop of majestic emerald green rainforest clad mountains, this is the only place on earth where two World Heritage areas coexist, as Wet Tropical Rainforest meets The Great Barrier Reef.

There’s the opportunity to stop at one of the local ice-cream companies where you can purchase a variety of tropical fruit flavoured ice creams and take a short break before it’s time to take the cable-ferry crossing of the mighty Daintree River as you make your way back to Cairns.

The homeward journey commences through lowland rainforest and tropical farmland before following one of the most picturesque coastal drives in Australia along the Cook Highway. Arrive back into Port Douglas (5.30pm), Cairns Northern Beaches (6.00pm) and Cairns City (6.30pm) accommodation with a courtesy drop off to accommodation.
