The CourseLearn to Dive with one of Australia's Premier PADI Dive Centres. With over 25 years  experience in the local Dive Industry, multi-lingual prefessional Dive Instructors and state of the art facilities, you will are offered one of Cairns' best Budget Open Water Learn to Dive Courses. 

The opeator's Diver Training Facility offers massive multi-level 300,000 litre purpose built diver training pool and spacious classroom facilities, the perfect place to learn and practice your skills (pool & theory work) over 2 days (days 1 & 2 of the course) before progressing to diving in the deeper waters of the Great Barrier Reef. 

Your dive vessel for 2 days of diving (days 3 & 4 of the course) on the Great Barrier Reef is the MV Evolution. A large, spacious, luxurious and fast catamaran, purpose built by the operator for the ultimate in Great Barrier Reef touring with 3 large deck areas to lounge around and innovative drop-down water entry platforms, you'll have the space and facilities to enjoy the experience of a lifetime; learning to dive on The Great Barrier Reef!

Evolution departs from Cairns on a daily basis and travels to 2 separate Outer Barrier Reef locations (chosen from Norman, Saxon & Hastings Reefs) each day for up to 5 hours of diving and snorkelling. The MV Evolution is filled with new, quality dive and snorkel equipment and manned by a professional, friendly crew. Your 4 Day Budget Learn To Dive Course, despite being a budget course, is anything but budget in terms of quality and inclusions. 

Cruise to the outer edges of the Great Barrier Reef in safety, style and comfort, enjoy top quality equipment and training with the vessel's helpful Dive Instructors and Learn to Dive in style! 

Enjoy and complete 2 PADI Open Water Training Dives each day onboard MV Evolution with free time to snorkel and enjoy a delicious BBQ Lunch whilst at the Reef and morning and afternoon teas included.

Return into Cairns Marinas at the end of each day, arriving approximately 4.30pm in the afternoon,   

The PADI Open Water Diver course consists of three main phases:

  • Knowledge Development in a classroom to understand basic principles of scuba diving (Days 1 & 2) 
  • Confined Water Dives to learn basic scuba skills in the pool on land in the Diver Training Facility (Days 1 & 2) 
  • Travelling to the Great Barrier Reef on Days 3 & 4 to do your PADI Open Water Training Dives to review your skills and explore (Days 3 & 4)! 

The standard Open Water Course is run over 4 Days, with 2 days in the classroom/pool then 2 days at the Outer Great Barrier Reef on the luxury cruise vessel Evolution.

4 Day Learn to Dive Course Itinerary

Day 1: Classroom/Pool Training
  • Medical checks and paperwork completed on site at 8am, before Classroom and video sessions commence
  • Lunch break, then the afternoon pool training session begins

Day 2: Classroom/Pool Training
  • Classroom and video sessions re-commence & small exam completed
  • Lunch break, before spending the afternoon finalising your skills in the training pool
  • Full reef biology presentation available at 'Reef Teach' on the second night

Day 3: Great Barrier Reef
  • On board Evolution you will travel to two exclusive dive sites on the Outer Great Barrier Reef to conduct a series of training skills in the open water environment
  • 2 PADI Open Water Training Dives are completed
  • Returning to Cairns at 4:30pm then dropped off at your accommodation

Day 4: Great Barrier Reef
  • Again you will travel on board Evolution to their exclusive sites for completion of your course
  • Once both dives and all paperwork has been completed, your Instructor will present you with your Scuba Diving Licence
  • Returning to Cairns at 4:30pm then dropped off at your accommodation
  • Drinks and dinner (own expense) that night to celebrate your certification

Course Requirements
  • PADI standards require that each student must be able to complete a basic swimming (200m) and floating (10min) test on the first day of the course.
  • Minimum age: 15 years old (12 for PADI Junior Open Water Diver)
  • All students must complete a medical questionnaire before commencement of the course. If a medical issue is identified then a medical certificate may be required and will be arranged on the first day at a reduced cost.

Please note there are regulations about flying or going to altitude after diving
- Currently the rules state that for a single no decompression dive, you should not fly/go to altitude for at least 12 hours.
- For multiple dives you should not fly/go to altitude for at least 24 hours. These are guidelines only; there is no guarantee that these recommendations will prevent decompression sickness. Currently there are no guidelines regarding diving after flying.

Altitude is 300m/1000ft above sea level. This includes going to the Atherton Tablelands, so be careful when you are booking tours to follow your dive course/trip.
