The Tour
Day 1 First the World Heritage Daintree rainforest and Cape Tribulation,
then the rugged 4WD Bloomfield Track, weather permitting, a visit to the unique
Lion's Den Hotel and eerie Black Mountain all on the way to our first camp site
near historic Cooktown.
Day 2 Walk where Captain Cook walked, and relive the Palmer River goldrush
days as you stroll through Cooktown. Climb Laura's sandstone escarpment at Split
Rock (reasonable fitness and suitable footwear required) to view Aboriginal
"Quinkan" rock art before making camp in the Lakefield National Park.
Day 3 Waterlily covered billabongs, wildlife and a great variety of birdlife
in Lakefield National Park this morning. Visit the historic Telegraph Station
of Musgrave before a refreshing ale at Coen's famous Exchange Hotel. Camp at
Archer River tonight.
Day 4 4WD action and adventure on Cape York's rugged Telegraph Track.
Cross rivers and creeks, swim and relax, and see prehistoric palms, giant termite
mounds and carnivorous plants. Camp in the wilderness at day's end then dine
by the campfire's light in the company of millions of stars.
Day 5 You'll be enchanted by the magic of Indian Head Falls - swimming
here, in pristine pools landscaped by nature, will be a lifelong memory. Onward
across the mighty Jardine River to our beachfront camp site on the tropical
shores of Torres Strait. Here we stay for three balmy nights.
Day 6 A tropical cruise to Thursday Island or fish with a professional
guide (both optional). Alternatively, take your bird book and binoculars for
a bush walk or relax at the beach with a good book.
Day 7 At Somerset we journey into the past with our explorers, pioneers
and Cape York's original inhabitants. An emotional afternoon when we stand at
the very top of Australia - Cape York!
Day 8 You'll be sad today when you leave this magical place, and your
new friends... but you'll take unforgettable memories with you as you fly back
to Cairns over the Great Barrier Reef at the end of your incredible adventure.
Terminates at Cairns airport.
