Day One: Experience the best of Tropical North Queensland's Reef, Rainforest and Outback. From Cairns you'll fly out into the vast expanse of the Outback where the first stop will be the Tyrconnell Outback Experience and Historic Golf Mine for a morning tour and lunch. After lunch journey on to the Gulf Savannah to the private airfield of the Undara Lava Lodge. As the sun goes down join your Savannah Guide for a magnificent sunset tour, followed by an evening of activities down by the campfire. Overnight Lava Lodge, lunch and dinner included.

Day Two: Awaken your tastebuds with bush breakfast at the Ringers Camp to the accompaniment of the morning bird chorus. Join your Savannah Guide for a half day lava tube tour where they will share their extensive knowledge of this fascinating area. After lunch depart the Lava Lodge for your return low level scenic flight to Cairns via the spectacular Great Barrier Reef and coastal rainforest. Breakfast and lunch included.

The Lava Tubes

About 190,000 years ago, a major volcano in the McBride Volcanic Province erupted violently, its molten lava flowing quickly down a dry river bed. As the top outer layer cooled and formed a crust, the fiery flow below drained downwards leaving behind a series of long, dark, hollow tubes. After a time, ancient roof collapses created fertile pockets where rainforest plants, animals and insects continue to thrive. The significance of these impressive, natural, geological and cultural wonders have been preserved for present and future generations through the setting aside this important area as the Undara Volcanic National Park. Undara is an Aboriginal word meaning 'a long way'. They were right - you'd have to travel a long way to see a geological wonder to equal Undara's Lava Tubes!
