Your Eco-Certified Tour starts from the Northern Beaches and Cairns and heads south passing the majestic ‘Pyramid’ mountain surrounded by fields of sugar cane. Continue south to the beautiful Josephine Falls where you will enjoy a short rainforest walk taking you deep into the Falls; your experienced guide will interpret the wet tropical rainforest and the natural flora and fauna. Walk to the viewing platform at the top of the falls for the best aspect of the Falls.
Continue on to the Johnstone River Crocodile Farm for a tour of the Crocodile Farm. Here you can enjoy a delicious morning tea and coffee break in the heart of the Wet Tropics. Take advantage of the great photo opportunities as we get up close to crocodiles, wallabies, kangaroos, dingoes, emus, snakes, birds, the rare cassowary and much more! Learn how crocodiles breed, survive and how we each play our part in conserving these magnificent creatures.
With lunch time approaching its time to make your way to Innisfail, a small township settled by Italian immigrants, in the heart of sugar cane country and renowned for its Art Deco buildings. Tantalise your tastebuds as you relax at Roscoe’s Restaurant for an Australian-Italian buffet style lunch.
After lunch travel on to the highlight of the tour in the heart of the protected wilderness of the Wet Tropics World Heritage listed Wooroonooran National Park. Your guide will take you through this magnificent country and this ancient rainforest inhabited by the MaMu people since the beginning of time. From the canopy walkway you can take in the enormity of this beautiful landscape and the North Johnstone River. Stand high in the tall timbered rainforest with spectacular cantilever viewing platforms and tower canopy views over the exhilarating vistas of the North Johnstone River Gorge.
As you make your way back toward Cairns make a brief stop into the tiny town of Babinda for a quick afternoon refreshment and a chance to meet a local Aboriginal family to see their painting work and to hear the didgeridoo.
Your final stop of the day is at the Boulders Wilderness Reserve on the eastern slopes of Mt. Bartle Frere, Australia’s second highest mountain. Steeped in Aboriginal legend from the local Tininji tribe where it is told that the spirit of Aboriginal maiden Oolana dwells within the submerged boulders of the creek. Walk along a rainforest path to the breathtaking granite rock gorge as your naturalist Guide tells this magical story. Enjoy a swim in one of the creeks as advised by your Guide. Return to Cairns and your accommodation relaxed and refreshed after a beautiful day in the tropical Misty Mountains.
