The Island
Dunk Island is one of the most beautiful islands in the tropics. Named by Captain
Cook in 1770, the island is close to Australia's magnificent Great Barrier Reef
and just a short 40 minute, scenic flight from both Cairns and Townsville International
Airports. From the moment you step off the plane, you will begin to discover
why so many have fallen under the island's enchanting spell, to return time
and again.
One of only three tropical rainforest islands on the reef, it's a lush exotic home to colourful gardens, native flora and fauna, 150 species of birds and of course, the island's famous symbol, the blue Ulysses butterfly.
Visit a working dairy farm, ride the beach on horseback, watch rainforest turtles feast on blossoms. The island also offers some of the richest game fishing waters in the world, drawing a competitive fleet each September for the thrills of the annual Billfish Classic fishing tournament. There's so much to see and do on Dunk that the hardest decision you'll ever to have to make is whether to lie on the beach with a tall drink or to keep your mind and body occupied with a host of island diversions. Most sports and activities are included in your tariff, however a charge is made for fuel powered watersports, reef trips, game fishing, private cruises and luxury charters. Glide above coral gardens in a glass bottom boat, snorkel at your leisure or join the sea creatures in a scuba dive.
There's a variety of four appealing styles of accommodation to choose from.
The stunning Bayview Villas and the spacious Beachfront Units enjoy a position
overlooking Brammo Bay; and both feature comfortable, queen size beds. The Banfield
Units and Garden Cabanas are cool and enticing; nestled around colourful garden
walkways. Each unit features air conditioning, a private balcony or patio, ensuite
bathrooms, telephones, in-house movies, fans, refrigerators, tea and coffee
facilities, irons and ironing boards. All rooms are serviced daily and there's
tea and coffee making facilities and a mini-bar for your convenience.
