The Course

Since 1983 Pro Dive Cairns has developed and maintained an international reputation as the premier dive company in Cairns. Their modern purpose built diver training centre provides some of the best facilities available. They have 16 spectacular dive sites over 4 different reefs and provide one of the best outer reef liveaboard experiences from Cairns. This company is committed to the idea that, regardless of level, any diving activity taken with Pro Dive should be safe and enjoyable.

The first 2 days of your 5 day Learn to Dive Course are spent learning the theory and underwater skills of diving. Days 3, 4 & 5 are spent onboard one of Pro Dive’s 3 fully equipped, purpose built multi-million dollar dive vessels. The vessels carry only 32 passengers and the itinerary allows for a total of up to 9 dives in total – the first 4 dives are your training dives, which are followed by 5 pleasure dives (weather permitting). Cabins onboard are ALL Twin or Double SHARE. Courses commence 6 times per week and can be done in English, German or Japanese language.

This course may be a little more expensive than others but all the extras are included. We do strongly recommend that you pre-book this course as it is one of the most popular learn to dive options.

English courses commence every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday & Saturday (everyday except Sunday) all year round
German courses are available every Tuesday & Friday
Japanese courses are available every Thursday

Itinerary

Please Note: Pick up times will vary depending on accommodation location. Please bring the money for your dive medical, swimmers and a towel.

Day 1 - Pool and Classroom Training
8:00am Complimentary Hotel transfer service available from accommodation in Cairns and Northern Beaches up to Palm Cove
8:30am Registration at Pro Dive Training Centre, Spence Street in Cairns
8:45am Academic Training in the classroom
1:00pm Medical and Lunch break (Lunch not Included)
2:00 Pool training

Day 2 - Pool and Classroom Training
7:30am Complimentary Hotel Transfer service available
8:30am Pool Training
12:30am Equipment preparation for Reef Trip at Dive Shop
1:00pm Lunch Break (Lunch not Included)
2:00pm Academic Training in the classroom and Final exam
5:30pm Complimentary Hotel Transfer service available

Day 3 - Diving the Outer Great Barrier Reef
5:45am Complimentary Hotel Transfer service available
6:15am Check-In at Dive Shop, cnr Sheilds and Abbott Sts, Cairns
7:00am Depart Cairns for 3days 2nights of fantastic diving on the Great Barrier Reef
11:30am Your first Training Dive in the ocean before lunch and second dive after lunch. You will also have a lot of time for snorkelling

Day 4: More Great Diving
6:30am Third Training Dive before Breakfast. This will be the deepest training dive for your certification
10:30am The last Training Dive for your PADI Open Water Certification Course. Now You are a Certified Diver!!!
2:30pm Your first pleasure dive as a certified diver
7.00pm A guided night dive after dinner. Another great experience!

Day 5: More Diving and Return to Cairns
6:00am Three more pleasure dives before lunch
3:30pm Return to Cairns
4.30pm Complimentary Hotel Transfer service available
7.30pm Meet fellow crew and passengers again for a farewell dinner

PADI Open Water Manual to keep in English, German, French, Dutch, Danish or Swedish. If another language is required we have Chinese, Korean, Italian, Japanese, Norwegian, Portuguese, and Spanish for loan.

Learn to Dive Course Referral Participants AU$630.00 per person

Course Extras (not included in course cost)

An additional fee of $45.00 per person is payable to Pro Dive. This fee consists of a $15.00 Government Reef Tax, as well as a departure tax and administration charges. This charge is applicable to all passengers travelling out on the 3 day / 2 night liveaboard excursions and all dive courses combining the 3 day excursion. AU$49.50 (inc GST) payable direct to the doctor. Australian Medical Standards are different to those overseas. A medical obtained in another country will most likley not be valid in Australia.

Requirements

The ability to swim
Minimum diver age is 12 years subject to a medical assessment as per AS4005.1. Children under the age of 15 must be accompanied by parent or adult over the age of 18 years.
An Australian issied AS4005.1 dive medical is required. Some medical conditions may preclude you from diving, such as asthma, diabetes, epilepsy, pregnancy and some other medical conditions. Children must be accompanied by parent or guardian during the medical assessment.
