The Diving
On these expeditions you not only dive the Ribbon Reefs but have the added bonus of encounters with Dwarf Minke Whales. Through years of experience and research the world's Dwarf Minke whale expert team can offer you the ultimate 'in-water' whale encounters as no other organisation can. Scheduled Ribbon Reef dives will be replaced by whale watching and snorkelling experiences and dives may be reduced from 4 to 2 per day, depending on the number and length of time of interactions with the whales. During this trip we are often joined by world renowned whale experts and photographers. This is the best example of a symbiotic relationship between research and tourism, and is highlighted on National Geographic's recently released documentary "Mystery of the Minkes", which was filmed onboard Undersea Explorer.
Research experience includes:
The Undersea Explorer visits Australia's best dive sites on the Great Barrier Reef, Osprey Reef in the Coral Sea, and the spectacular remote Far Northern Reefs. Our liveaboard operation sets new standards in adventure diving by offering truly remote diving , as well as the opportunity to learn from and mingle with marine scientists.
Diver's abilities are respected and include no time-limit dives and exhilarating drift dives. Your diving experience is our priority. Research activities fit around the diving program, adding a stimulating atmosphere of discovery to all expeditions while contributing to our knowledge and conservation of marine eco-systems.
This is a trip for the whole family as we are joined by some of the world's leading whale experts, providing a truly unique experience. While whale sightings are not guaranteed, trips are run during the peak Ribbon Reef Minke whale sighting times.
Available Mid June to July.
