Itinerary
Day 1: Passengers meet dive vessel Rum Runner 1 at Trinity Wharf by 03:30pm. Departure time 04:00pm. NOTE: All divers must report to office (Shop 2 / 1st Floor, Tropical Arcade) to complete paperwork prior to meeting with boat. Dinner is served as we sail through the Great Barrier Reef and watch the sun setting over the mountains behind Cairns. Guests can relax and have a few social drinks and get to know each other, as we sail overnight through the Coral Sea. Passengers are welcome to join in and grab a rope and hoist a sail alongside the crew. In calm clear weather the stars over the Coral Sea are an awesome sight.
Day 2: 3 - 4 day dives & 1 night dive. Arriving at Holmes Reef, a tropical breakfast is served. Diving will be tailored to suit individual experience levels. Guided dives can be arranged if required. Dive in shallow coral gardens, isolated pinnacles, caverns, caves and spectacular walls, then a fantastic night dive. Evenings are relaxed with videos or chatting over a few drinks, while resting in protected night moorings
Day 3: 4 day dives including shark feed & 1 night dive. An invigorating deep dive before a hearty breakfast. Explore swim-throughs, caverns and drift diving the fabulous Abyss, a sheer wall dropping 1,000m, teeming with life. An ideal adventure for the Advanced diver but still safe and easy for the novice diver. Explore shallows by a coral sand cay after lunch. Experience the thrill of feeding sharks at The Predators Playground. (Conducted in a controlled and safe manner in only 9 metres of water). Overnight sail with a night dive at Nonki Pinnacle, with soft corals, octopus, sleeping turtles, crustaceans and amazing night creatures
Day 4: Sail back into the Barrier Reef, watch the sunrise, have breakfast as we head back to Cairns, Lookout for Whales & Dolphins as we sail past the reef.
The Diving
The Holmes Reef diving site has some of the most spectacular diving sites in the world. (Rated in the worlds top ten) . Experience Drift Diving at The Abyss (a 1000m deep wall), explore amazing caves, easy diving at Nonki Pinnacle, Turtles' Graveyard, deep dive The Cathedrals and do not forget the shark feed dive and incredible night diving.
Shark Feeding has been conducted in the same controlled manner for 10 years without incident. If you think that sharks are the killing machines portrayed in the movies, then you must experience this awesome and informative event. This shark dive will change your feelings about sharks forever.
Sitting comfortably on the sand in 9m of water the food is suspended at 5m from the bottom, and 10m in front of you, giving you an excellent view of the event - perfect for photographers. 30 - 40 sharks usually attend the shark feeding dive.
Sharks you will see are White Tip Reef sharks, Grey Whalers, Silver Tips, Tawney Nurse and occasionally a very large hammerhead.
