With daily live-aboard departures available, Kangaroo Explorer offers the certified diver, snorkeller and first time diver (introductory) flexible itineraries. The M.V. Kangaroo Explorer is a modern 25 metre catamaran specifically designed for Queensland coastal cruising. Each of the vessel’s 16 cabins (twin, double and 4-berth) is fully air-conditioned, carpeted, with en-suite facilities and porthole or window. On the main deck there is a spacious saloon served by a top class galley and a well stocked bar. The top deck offers an enclosed air-conditioned sun lounge as well as an open and shaded sundeck. There is a library situated in the sun lounge for your convenience. The Kangaroo Explorer is equipped with a spacious dive deck providing easy access to and from the water.

This is a unique opportunity to cruise and dive through one of the world's great natural wonders in style and comfort. Start the day with a leisurely breakfast then relax on the sundeck between dives and let the world drift slowly by enjoying the remoteness of you location. As dusk settles, get ready for a possible night dive. Whatever you choose to do whilst onboard the vessel’s friendly, professional crew will endeavour to show you the best of The Great Barrier Reef.

The cabins onboard are quad, triple, twin or double share and you will need to specify on booking which configuration you require.

All major international scuba accreditations are accepted and snorkellers are most welcome.

Dive Sites

Milln Reef - A fantastic reef on the outer edge with good visibility and colourful fish life, offering swim throughs and an amazing array of fish and coral life.
Moore Reef - A large reef with staghorn thickets on its sandy bottom. Bommies have great swim throughs and are worth exploring. Wrasse, parrotfish, emperors, butterflyfish and surgeonfish are common. A good macrophotogray site
Briggs Reef- Whip corals on the bommies and in the swim-throughs. Whitetip reef sharks, wrasse, parrotfish, damsels butterflyfish, angelfish, rabbitfish and surgeonfish)
Thetford Reef- Offers swim-throughs, boulder coral, large gorgonian fans and soft coral. In and around the coral patches look for giant clams, butterflyfish, rabbitfish, damsels, angelfish and pipefish

Liveaboard Snorkelling

Snorkel the amazing Outer Great Barrier Reef! See spectacular coral gardens teeming with a vast array of marine life. Join in the fun aboard the MV Kangaroo Explorer or laze on the spacious sun deck. Enjoy the sumptious meals prepared by experienced chefs. At night sit back and relax in the Lounge Bar or stroll on deck to see the amazing night sky. (Guided snorkeling sessions available on all snorkel tours, free of charge)

Liveaboard Diving

This is diving at its best! Using state of the art diving equipment, explore some of the best dive sites on the Outer Great Barrier Reef. You will see a vast array of hard and soft corals, great drop-offs, exciting walls and swim-throughs. Experience the unbelievable thrill of Night Diving on the Great Barrier Reef. Sumptuous meals are prepared by experienced chefs. Spend the evening relaxing in the Lounge Bar or out on deck to see the brilliant night sky.
This vessel caters to Certified Divers, Snorkellers and first time Introductory Divers with all equipment and instruction supplied.

Itinerary

Day 1 – Dive the Great Barrier Reef

The Cairns Dive Centre bus and crew will collect you from your Cairns City accommodation at around 8.00am. You will be transferred to the Outer Barrier Reef aboard the liveaboard vessel Kangaroo Explorer and after lunch you will do your first two training dives. Enjoy the afternoon at leisure aboard the vessel. Enjoy a night dive (optional) For safety reasons divers who have not previously done night dives will be required to take a guided dive $11 per person. Lunch, Dinner and all onboard Accommodation included.

Day 2 – More Great Diving

After breakfast there is the opportunity to do further dives! In the afternoon after lunch there is the opportunity for a pleasure dive. Enjoy a night dive (optional). For safety reasons divers who have not previously done night dives will be required to take a guided dive $11 per person. Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner and onboard Accommodation are included.

Day 3 – More Diving and Return to Cairns

After breakfast there is the opportunity for up to 3 pleasure dives before lunch then it’s time to head back to Cairns onboard the fast transfer vessel Sunkist and a return transfer to your accommodation in Cairns. Breakfast and Lunch are included.
